Every item on these shelves can be defended in a sentence. If it cannot, it does not go on the shelf. Three sets of braai tongs, because these are the three worth owning — that is the whole idea, and it is an old one: the dorp general dealer stocked tinned goods beside hardware beside sweets, and people trusted the shopkeeper's eye.
The name
He was named Slovaskie. He was fourteen, short in the leg and mad about the sea, and he spent his last years without his eyes and lost none of his confidence for it. He knew what was worth having by getting close to it. That is more or less how we buy stock.
That is the whole story. The seal is his — it goes on the parcels.
